Old Table - New Table
This was a very fun one day project. An old circular pine table is reshaped and refinished into a new kitchen table with steel piping legs.

The Old

The New

After chopping off two sides and planing the surface, the table is clamped down so I can go at it with a rasp. The filing of the edges went quickly enough but my muscles ache typing up this post.

A close up of the icky finish to be removed.

Rasps are powerful material removers. This edge only took about 20 minutes.

Quick sand

Easy wipe-on finish

That notch is from the pedestal that held the table up before. I left it as is.

I added some scratches to the sides to match the ends.

A note on working with steel pipes:
They are terrible. You’d think they would be factory perfect and true but they’re not. Steel pipes are always warped and weird and it’s a massive pain to get anything to sit level.

Bam! Just missing the legs which will be screwed in upon delivery.
