This was a very fun one day project. An old circular pine table is reshaped and refinished into a new kitchen table with steel piping legs.

Movable Picnic - Stave labour
Each Movable Picnic is made of 11 staves that are woven together with leather to make a portable table surface. Each stave goes through quite a process to make it perfect for picnicking.
Here are the staves after they’ve been cut to size. The grooves that fit the leather straps are pretty feathery and need much sanding.
Here are enough staves to make about 12 tables.
The edges of each stave are rounded over by hand with a cute little plane. This part is pretty time consuming.
This is me planing the day away.
Leather strips that will be used on our new Movable Picnics. I will be spending the rest of the evening running these over a block of beeswax to protect them.
